THE NEW P4500-TON PRESS

A new 4500 TON hydraulic free-forging press is being installed at the Forge Fedriga manufacturing plant. The machine’s welded steelwork structure has four push-down type columns. These are pre-tensioned columns (case and tie rod). The pressing cylinder, return cylinders, and die exchange auxiliary circuits are driven by an HP3 hydraulic system with piston pumps and a patented kinetic energy storage system, with flywheels on the electric motors that allow optimal use of the installed power in intermittent processing, such as roughing, of about twice the installed power. The pumps are driven by motors with inverters, thus ensuring minimal reactive electrical power (power factor to one). The machine has a mallet storage with five loading positions, a movable table (carriage) with position control, and automatic hooking/unhooking of the upper mallet. The movable crossbar is equipped with electronic position control for dynamic elongation compensation. This project is funded under the Union’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
