Forge Fedriga’s Green Vision: our care for the Environment

Environmental sustainability nowadays is of fundamental importance for all companies. Adopting a green approach is essential from an energy-saving perspective to reduce consumption and enjoy economic benefits but also to directly impact the environment and contribute to increasing attention to sustainability. This is a goal that Forge Fedriga has been pursuing for some time.

Catering and coffee breaks: green innovations

For example, regarding catering and coffee breaks, the company has made a commitment – also officially notified to its employees – to use environmentally friendly materials and services. For this reason, plastic water bottles are no longer provided to encourage the use of water dispensers across the cafeteria area. In addition, the employees who use the cafeteria habitually were provided with a personal water bottle. Again, plates and cutlery in the cafeteria are 100 percent compostable, as are the glasses and placemats.

The Valle Cicl-ABILE project

Forge Fedriga is also one of the partners in the Valle Cicl-ABILE project: a pilot project in active mobility promoted by the Vallecamonica Bio-district. This initiative intends to limit short trips by car, so that car can be replaced by the use of eco-friendly transportation. In particular, the idea is to create a core group of people willing to commute by bicycle for daily errands, the home-to-school commute, and the home-to-work commute. Forge Fedriga employees have been invited to join the project, assuming that any change in habits in this area has a sustainable and virtuous effect. As it is known, excessive use of private cars negatively affects local livability, health, and air quality.

The promotion of well-being at Forge Fedriga

Forge Fedriga is part of the “Workplaces that promote wellness” program, promoted by the Ministry of Health, the Lombardy Region, and the Camonica Valley ATS. The goal is to reduce preventable and avoidable diseases as well as mortality. The program contributes to workplace wellness by preventing behavioral risk factors for chronic diseases such as an unbalanced diet, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, and alcohol abuse. For Forge Fedriga, being an active part of this initiative means planning a series of best practices according to the rules detailed in a dedicated manual. For example, among the best practices to be promoted are the support offered to quit smoking and the introduction of an appropriate diet for meals eaten in the cafeteria, with special attention paid to the food made available from vending machines. These are all actions that will be planned over the next three years and will be monitored by ATS. Once the appropriate checks and inspections have been carried out, the company will be given a certificate of recognition as a “Workplace that promotes wellness“.
