OIL&GAS INDUSTRY

FORGING FOR THE PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Forging for the petrochemical industry – also called the oil&gas industry – is one of the most important processes performed by Forge Fedriga. Our company collaborates with major companies in the industry, providing forged products and machining of the highest quality and precision.

H2 What is the oil&gas industry?

The petrochemical industry primarily focuses on manufacturing semi-finished products from hydrocarbon fractions that result from the distillation of oil or natural gas. But what exactly does the oil and gas industry produce? These are the so-called intermediate products since they do not directly reach consumers or the end-user market but are used to create other molecules. It is necessary to distinguish between petrochemical and refinery processes based on the final destination of the products to be obtained. Those resulting from refining crude oil are used as fuels and thus allow for generating energy. Conversely, products from the petrochemical sector are used as materials.

A particular sector of the petrochemical industry is the subsea sector which deals with hydrocarbon extraction activities performed on the seabed or at sea to explore natural gas, oil, or condensate deposits located below the seabed. This sector is known as the upstream field and focuses on searching for deposits carried out by drilling exploratory wells. If successful, then the deposit can be used, and the extraction phase begins, which calls for bringing the natural gas or oil to the surface.

Forged products are indispensable in every sector and application for the petrochemical industry. The quality of materials and processing guarantees an efficient end product.

H2 Forging for the petrochemical industry – how it works

Forging for the petrochemical industry allows different types of products to be produced using different techniques and applications: free forging, hot forging, and cold forging. One of the most widely used materials for this purpose is industrial steel for the oil and gas industry, which meets the needs of small and large production volumes, prototyping, and medium-sized production runs. Forging components can be made from different materials, such as stainless steel and steel. Depending on the needs and circumstances, the most suitable process- between cold forging and hot forging- can be identified and exploited to make the forged parts for the petrochemical industry that will guarantee the best possible result.

For the petrochemical sector, forging allows obtaining a wide series of accessories, ranging from nozzles to blocks, flanges, rings, forged bars, pipe plates, and all fittings in general.

Forge Fedriga has historically been active in this market and, thanks to the experience gained over the past decades (see project list), can ensure credibility and professionalism, showing its commitment to the benefit of quality and considering compliance with requirements with the services and products offered. Of course, this is without forgetting the technical requirements.
